So, when I heard that my friends Terri and Jon were in town visiting the city with their kids (their sweet little lady and my adorable godson!), I was really excited to do something during the day for a change. They decided to visit the Taste of Chicago and Millennium Park, and I was happy to join them in the beautiful sunshine.
For those of you who aren't familiar with Millennium Park, it's gorgeous. Mike and I have taken advantage of it this summer to attend a free concert....
...while I've also visited the park for free yoga on Saturday mornings...
And, of course, you can't visit the park without checking out the famous "bean".
When visiting with the kiddos on a hot summer day, however, we took advantage of the "splash" area (I really don't know what to call it), and it was a blast!
(That adorable little lady in the middle, E, makes me smile!)
(And how can you NOT love this little man? I am proud to be his godmother!)
It was such a perfect little summer day in Chicago! As my vacation winds down, I hope to spend many more just like this...

ReplyDeleteI loved Millennium park when I went - the bean was so fun but so touristy. I don't live in a city but we have lots of "parks". And by park I mean lakes that you can walk around. They aren't like city parks at all, but I love walking around the lake in the evening. They also have concerts (from local bands) and movie nights (where they show projected movies). It's fun and quaint. In the city I love Lafayette Park (the park in front of the White House) for a nice lunch away from the office. I haven't found a splash park yet!

ReplyDeleteThe splash part looks like so much fun. We have a kiddie sprinkler park near my house but it's really geared towards itty bitty kids. I've never been to Chicago but everyone I know who has gone has a picture with the bean.
ReplyDeleteObviously Central Park, but Bryant Park (oddly our meeting place) has movies Monday nights, and yoga a couple of nights a week in the summer. Love going there in the midst of skyscrapers!

ReplyDeleteOh, I miss Chicago! I haven't been in YEARS. Since most of my college friends wound up there, I have no excuse. And now that Megabus runs from Nashville to Chicago, I really have no excuse.
ReplyDeleteNashville has lots of fun parks and green spaces. Probably the most well known is Centennial Park, where the replica of the Parthenon is. Because who doesn't think Parthenon when they think Tennessee?? Ha! :)
I have so much love for Millennium Park! I used to do my homework and studying there during the fall quarter of my freshman year. Such sweet memories of lying in the grass on perfect autumn afternoons! <3 I love that they have free yoga there on Saturdays! That is so cool! And looks like you guys had a great time in the splash area !!

Summer in big cities is always fun, especially with kids and fun parks to be in. We don't really have a park here which makes me really sad. I miss parks. But we have some sort of green areas...so at least we get to pretend we have a park.
