Next Year.

I'm almost ashamed to admit this, since I am in love with the concept/idea/feeling of love - but I hate Valentines Day. I am not exactly sure where this hatred originated. Perhaps it was cultivated through my many years of singledom and year after year of drowning my sorrows in gin and tonics. Maybe it's because I despise the color red. (If I had the power, blue would be the official color for February 14. Why? Because I look damn good in it! Plus, it has a very calming effect.) Or it could be attributed to the fact that I hate standing in long lines and waiting - waiting for movies, dinner reservations, etc. I am also a firm believer in celebrating love by displaying it on a daily basis. Love should be equated with things like - holding hands across the table, staring into someone's eyes, picking up a pint of Ben & Jerry's when you have PMS, etc.

That's why next year, I am proposing the idea of having a party - for everyone - couples and singles alike. Perhaps even babies will be welcome, too. The party doesn't necessarily have to be love-themed, per se, but it might be fun to play games (movie/music trivia that entails great love AND hate stories) and have themed food and drinks (the "I-Wish-I-Was-Having" Sex on the Beach). OR, the party could take on a theme of love in the platonic sense of the word and we could celebrate friendships.

Regardless, there will be cupcakes, large red wine glasses that are made with a special crystal that doesn't break, and my famous white square plates from Pottery Barn. And yes, Mike will probably make all of the food.

Who's in?
