Hello! I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend! Mine was really a pretty fantastic combination of fun, family, friends and relaxation. Secretly though, it made me a bit sad to realize that my summer is halfway over and in a little over a month, I return to work. Le sigh. Better enjoy it while I can, right?
Instead of doing a weekend re-cap, I just thought I'd tell you what's going on in my life lately. In no particular order or pattern. I'm getting really lazy these days. I swear, someday I will actually take pictures with my really nice camera.
(Side Note: Did you enter my Stella & Dot giveaway? It closes tomorrow night at midnight! You can enter here!)
My life, lately, has consisted of...
* Running. Well, sort of. Last week, I felt an annoying pull in my glute, of all places. It wasn't painful. I stayed off it for several days and iced it as best I could (Just imagine me sitting on bags of frozen veggies). I ran for the first time in almost a week yesterday morning, and while I was pain free, I still had sore muscles. However, in the spirit of being proactive, I made an appointment with my sports medicine doctor and have upped my strength training and core work-outs significantly. And ice baths. I LOVE ICE BATHS.
BTW, I wasn't about to take pictures of myself in the tub and then post them on here for the world to see, so I did google "ice bath" and here are some of my favorites:
* Apparently, ice baths are communal in Austin...

* Beware! Ice baths can cause your leg to disappear.

* Nobody actually looks this cute while laying in snow and ice.

* Watching movies. My husband and I saw "Midnight in Paris" on Friday. I thought it was fantastic, but my husband hated it. Without giving too much away, I really loved the references to famous writers, and Owen Wilson was his usual awkwardly charming self.

(Photo taken by me, last summer in Paris!)
* Shopping. Well, sort of. The hubs and I went to IKEA over the weekend. We purchased this:

Hubs measured it and the car to make sure it would fit. It did, length-wise. Width-wise, it did not. So, we tried to take it apart in the parking lot. We couldn't. I asked about delivery. It was an additional $59. After an hour, we returned it and went to order online. It's an IN-STORE PURCHASE ONLY. Oy. The universe is trying to tell us that we do not need this mirror.
P.S. I think it's important to note that while we were waiting to return this mirror, TWO OTHER PEOPLE had the exact same problem. So, I don't think we're total idiots...
* Watching fireworks. I FINALLY saw them from my roof! Thank you to everyone who left comments, wishing me luck in this endeavor. It was really cute:) Mike and I hosted a few friends yesterday and enjoyed great food and conversation before we went up to the roof to watch the fireworks. While the show wasn't as impressive as in past years, it was great to see not only Chicago's fireworks, but all of the surrounding suburbs as well.

* Baking. Can you believe it? The raspberry lemon bars I posted about were a true success! You can find the recipe here if you're interested! It was really easy to follow...until I had to call my husband and ask him if I was using our can-opener correctly. (Turns out, I was!)
* Reading. I've been reading a TON this summer, and as such, I've decided to make this Thursday's Top 5 list about books! SO. If you want to link-up, let's discuss the top 5 books you've ever read, or are currently reading, or want to read! Perhaps we can all gather some great suggestions in the process, no?
How was your holiday weekend?
Not a shabby weekend at all! I want that IKEA mirror too. Was sad to see they got rid of their credit card program though. :(
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures of the guys in the ice tub... doesn't look uncomfortable at all.
ReplyDeleteSounds like your pains are a real pain in the butt... ha! I hate it when you have pain cause you never know if running will exaggerate it or not... good idea going to see a doc.
I'm so glad you had a nice weekend and that you and Mike are enjoying your summer. It’s going way too fast for me as well and sadly, I don’t feel like I’ve done half the things I want. I better get on that before September arrives.
ReplyDeleteWe've had issues with fitting things into our car when we bought our house so I completely understand the Ikea debacle.
The dudes taking a communal ice bath is quite a sight to see. HA!
The view from your apartment building is so pretty and it must have been great to have everyone over to go up on the roof to see it.
Hmmm...communal ice baths?! After running and SWEATING. Ick. ;)
ReplyDeleteum so i LOVED this post! i love random posts put together and this one was so much fun to read! whenever i think about running and amazingly try and talk myself out of it, i think of you and how much you love it and hope that i will find that relationship soon ;)
ReplyDeletei LOVED "midnight in paris" though i can see why others (like your husband :) lol) hated it... it was perfect woody allen of the old days that i remember.. in fact it was like watching woody allen when he used to play himself in his films. Owen Wilson had it down to a T! and yes!!! on the literature and art. i thought it was magical.
i can't believe i've never been to an ikea before! I never lived close to one. So sorry about your mirror :( but i giggled you weren't the only one having that problem.
Baking-- i am like you that i can't cook but i'm trying to take it one domestic step at a time so i am glad you linked to the recipe. thanks love!!!
and YESSSS! on your book link up! i just finished "something blue" last night and loved it. easy summer read and so now i can't wait to discuss new books to read and find some new ones in the process.
my holiday was restful but no fireworks thanks to the TX burn ban :(
xo
sorry about the novella of a comment!
Love the top five book idea!! I'd love to link up (Umm as soon as I figure out how to link up...)! :)
ReplyDeleteThat seal (?) is soooooo adorable!!!! Awwww!!
Owen Wilson is totally awkwardly charming- love the way you described him, haha. I want to see that movie sometime soon!
And sorry about your Ikea mirror!! Ughh- that is so frustrating!
if these are your verbs....i want your life!!
ReplyDeleteIce baths are not my favorite, but I have done them. Lemme just say, I'll drive down to Austin TONIGHT if I could hop in that communal ice bath with those boys! ;o)
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great weekend! Can't wait to see your top 5 reading list.
ReplyDeleteOooh I am psyched for your top 5 this week!
ReplyDeleteYou love ice baths? Seriously?! OUCH! I've never tried one and I think I'm way too chicken to try it haha!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the idea to link up about the books! I LOVE reading and am always looking for some new good reads!
Sounds like you've been making the most of your summer! You are SO cute having to ask Mike about the can opener :)
ReplyDeleteI love reading! Can't wait for the top 5 thursday!
ReplyDeleteThat is an EXCELLENT idea for Top 5 Thursdays and I really will participate this time! I've been so inconsistent with my blog since school got out. And ice baths?? Like your whole body, not just your feet? That is so hard-core!
ReplyDeleteCommunal ice baths sound... interesting, haha.
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to see Midnight in Paris! You've definitely just confirmed that I should bring a friend instead of my boyfriend though. Somehow I don't think it will be his cup of tea.
Watching fireworks from the rooftop must be amazing! Remember the cupcakes I made? They were gone before the weekend was over. Haha!
ReplyDeleteyessss, can't wait for book recos! i hope someone has a good YA suggestion... *hangs head in shame*
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you finally saw the fireworks! :)
ReplyDeleteSummer is fine, but I prefer fall and the Christmas season. Maybe if I was a teacher, this would be different...
I may have to check out this recipe. Although the hubs would not eat it, as he is a picky little turd. Bummer. More for me and Mckayla! :)
I hate cold water! I had to go to physical therapy and was supposed to put my thumb (yup, not even a large part of my body) in the cold whirlpool and I SO cheated. I'd take it out every time they'd leave the room lol!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you got up to your rooftop in time!
And I am starting to read books (I'm so lazy) so reading others' suggestions would be great!
Oh gosh I could not handle an ice bath at all! The fireworks look so pretty - you had a great view from your apartment!
ReplyDeleteomg! Lol about the ice baths. Oh and Lemon Raspberry Bars, that sounds sooo good. I'm gonna have to check out that recipe!
ReplyDeleteInteresting...ice baths...loved the communal picture! ;) Totally made my day.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, the universe was really telling you something there...and so glad two other people had the same problem as you did. It's just made to be in the store only. ;)
xoxo
Why did I look at that recipe?! DANG IT! I want lemon raspberry bars now!! Glad it was such a good weekend! I am so afraid of ice baths. I am not a runner so maybe that is why
