Back to School.

Well, friends, by the time you read this, I will be heading back to work after a wonderfully quiet little summer.  Yes, it's time for yet another school year (my eleventh).  I certainly didn't spend my last few precious days of freedom in vain, however.  There were many happy moments that I will definitely look back on throughout this chaotic first week back.

Happy Moment #1 - A lovely dinner with my love at Hubbard Inn.  One discovery this summer?  We love mussels!

Happy Moment #2: Watching a nasty storm roll into the city on a late Saturday afternoon, snuggled up with a blanket, coffee, and zero responsibilities.

Happy Moment #3 - Several successful long runs and the Olympics.  I swear, I've cried more these past two weeks than I have these past two years.

Happy Moment #4:  A visit to the zoo with these adorable little munchkins!

Happy Moment #5 - Finding a "compilation tape" lamp for my classroom, and hours of organization will make the transition to work that much smoother!

Happy Moment #6 - Hours of fun conversation on a patio with a dear friend and malbec.

As I head back to the trenches, I will recall these moments fondly as I am buried underneath a mountain of papers.  Or dealing with this...

Are you going back to school?  Kids going back to school?  Excited about the transition???

  8. I am always so jealous at the beginning of summer when teachers are all talking of having three months off - but then the return to work must be hard. I haven't had time off, so no re-adjustment here. Good luck with the new school year; I can't believe it's your 11th years! Hope you still love it!

  9. I'm excited for the college in my town to be back in session soon - maybe it'll be busy again at work!

And that storm looks like it was AWESOME.

  10. That lamp shade is a perfect find! And ohhhhh lesson planning. This is my first August in 7 years not getting ready to go back to school. Crazy! My new job is still very heavily influenced by the school calendar (since we work with teachers), but it's so strange not frantically working on curriculum and trying to get myself back in the habit of waking up early. I hope your new students are awesome! And let me know if you want any Voice of Witness books to use in the classroom :)

  14. I will be going back September 4! Remember those times where I was DROOLING over your freedom?! We start late and end late. I'm in avoidance mode right now because we leave for vacation (Annapolis MD and Virginia Beach) Thursday!!! Then the heart palpitations may begin.

  22. Sounds like a great summer. We're back this week, and I'm headed back hopefully Friday but definitely Monday. This week is the in-service week for us. One of my favorite things is sitting inside while a thunderstorm rolls through when I have no obligations. Good luck going back lady!
