* Watch live music. We caught Brett Dennen's performance the night we attended. If you've never heard of Brett, I would compare his sound to a Jason Mraz - he's fun, upbeat and slightly quirky. As much as I enjoyed him, let's just say that I was super disappointed to have missed Bel Biv Devoe and Salt-n-Peppa. "That girl is POISON..." (Sing it with me now!)

* You can bring your bird along in a stroller.

* You can watch drunk men run around and promote local 80's cover bands. (Hairbanger's Ball really is pretty fantastic, so this guy was spot-on in his promotion.)

* You can eat LOTS of food, like fried turkey legs...

(In my defense, I did NOT eat this, nor did my husband. My friend did, and I have an awesome photo of him going to town on this thing. However, because he is a teacher such as myself, I would never incriminate him here on the interwebs.)
* And of course, you can also eat CUPCAKES. See the caramel pecan cupcake below. I was in HEAVEN.

(And I swear, I didn't plan to wear a cupcake t-shirt. It's FATE - ha!)
What do you love about summer? Do you attend fairs or festivals too???
That sounds like SO MUCH FUN. Especially the music and cupcakes parts! I love Brett Dennen (that song There is So Much More gets me every time!) . . . but your'e right . . . not as much as I love Bel Biv Devoe and Salt-N-Pepa!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness you can bring your bird along in a stroller. What a relief!
loving your tshirt!
ReplyDeletemy parents used to go to the taste of chicago every year - always sounded like quite the event!
thanks for entering the book contest:)
I so so so miss the Taste of Chicago! We used to go when I was a kid and it was so much fun!
ReplyDeleteWe have a Taste of Minnesota here but I haven't been in years. The big thing here is the Minnesota State Fair. You can gain LOTS of weight going to that. There's also the Renaissance Festival - that's in September which still partly counts as summer.
And btw - seriously next time we're in Illinois you and I totally need to meet up. I will keep you posted, I really want to get there sometime this fall at the latest.
Dude, don't hate on the turkey legs...I can go to TOWN on those things. Ha!
ReplyDeleteBird stroller - WTF?
ReplyDeleteThat is the coolest shirt EVAAA!
ReplyDeleteOh Toronto is buzzing with festivals! We just had our Jazz festival and PRIDE. Now we have Summerlicious which is when 150 restos have 3 course prix fixed meals. YUMMY!
ReplyDeleteI happened to be in Chicago this year during the Taste of Chicago and really enjoyed it. I tried all sorts of food, watched a band, saw Adam from Man v. Food - what a great time.
ReplyDeleteHey!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous of your social scene. We don't get those sorts of festivals where I live. And to get to them we'd have to go to LA or the surrounding areas...it's not far and totally worth it, but we rarely even hear they are going on! I love doing those sorts of things, though.
I've been meaning to comment that I LOVE hearing about you watching Lost. Oh, the Second Season...have you met Henry Gale yet? I do love him so.
And YES! Kate is so worthless. So. Worthless. I also love that you do not love her.
When you get into the 5th and 6th seasons, you can catch up on my recaps. :)
Love!

Sounds like a blast! We have a couple festivals around here at the beginning of the summer, but I missed out on them this year unfortunately. I WILL be going to the Ren Fest in the fall again though! Talk about massive turkey legs!
ReplyDelete(Love your sunglasses...I have a very similar pair!)
nice johnny cupcakes shirt. my mum refuses to go to the taste with me because of the hot sweaty crowds. apparently she took me once when i was little... but i don't remember :-( i can live vicariously through you!!
ReplyDeleteI love events like this! At the end of June we attended an Italian festival, in August its Taste of the Danforth which is Greek.
ReplyDeletei love fairs and festivals. i think they are some of the best things about summer. i'm also a big fan of BBQs. love getting my BBQ on!
ReplyDeleteI think I might have to pay you to go and get another one of those cupcakes and mail it to me! Now that we've moved, I'm hoping to find one or two festivals like this here, too, because they look like so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThese are all reasons why I love the summer! Glad you're enjoying it! I love going to festivals and fairs.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy I found your blog (and that's not a spam comment either like people always do). First off: I am obsessed with Chicago. obsessed. I want to move there within 2 yeras. Secondly, my friends and I call ourselves "Festers" because we try to hit up fests all over because they are SO.MUCH.FUN! and lastly, you are putting those two together. Great post, can't wait to read more!
ReplyDeleteYum - I love Taste of anything. In DC they have Taste of Georgetown which sound kinda similar on a teeny weeny scale (it's only like one street). It's super fun to go, listen to music, and eat yummy food. If you can beat the crowds down. The last time I went it was quite hot and some girl fainted while waiting in line and people just stepped around her to get their food. It was so rude!
ReplyDeleteTaste of Chicago was probably my favorite thing about living in Chicago. Or at least one of them. I love good food and Chicago has lots of it. GAH I'm so jealous that you live there. Your blog posts make me happy :)
