It's unfortunate for myself and my future daughters that I have dozens of these so-called "fails" to share with you. However, since I am a history teacher and appreciate chronology, I'll start at the beginning.
Growing up, I was the oldest of four children. I was book smart, and certainly not very street smart.

(This was me in high school. Except she's way cuter. But I can hear her thoughts. "No, I cannot attend the party this weekend. I am a scholar. And an athlete. And alcohol is gross and scary.")
In other words, I was nerdy. I could tell you all about the Civil War. But ask me to clean the screens for the windows, and I'd throw them up in the air, keep them airborne with the garden hose, and break the frames in the process. I can hear my mother groaning now. How could I lack such clear common sense?
Fast forward to my bridal shower. I know that this will sound blasphemous, but I thought registering for gifts was a pain in the ass. Sure, I was excited about my wine glasses. And my vacuum. But the kitchen gear belonged to my husband. He cooks, he bakes, he leaps tall buildings in a single bound, etc. I am sure brides everywhere are rolling their eyes, but I had NO IDEA WHAT WE REGISTERED FOR where kitchen appliances were concerned.
I was more concerned with my outfit.

And reading cards.

So, #WifeFail number one? I might be the only bride in the world who received a copy of the "Martha Stewart Cookbook" (which by the way, was AUTOGRAPHED BY MARTHA STEWART herself) as a JOKE.

#WifeFail number two?
When I opened our really nice french skillet from Williams Sonoma, I said thank you and proceeded to ask if I was supposed to make french toast in the french skillet. My husband to be quickly told me to stop asking questions:)
Trust me people, there are several more gems of my non-domestic skills. Oy.

Do you have any "wife fails" to share?
(Note: I don't really think I'm a failure. If anything, I am amused by my lack of skills.)

Oh my! This post just made me so happy! Love the thought of the huz saying something along the lines of, "shhhh! I'll explain what all these things are for later... stop asking questions".
ReplyDeleteYou look so darn cute in your shower outfit holding the balloons! I do 99% of the cooking and cleaning in our house, but sewing isn't really my thing. I would like to learn, though!
ReplyDeleteI think McK will be a history teacher or something one day. She loves it and has an amazing memory!
Such a cute post!! I love it. We have a weird relationship - I do the handy work and he does the vacuuming and the laundry. I do the cooking, he does the dishes...
ReplyDeleteToo funny! And hey, we all bringing different things to the table in a relationship. Luckily, your man cooks :) I try to pretend like I'm a domestic goddess, however, sometimes, I'm not. And that's a-okay by me!
ReplyDeleteI love it!! Cracked me up...love the "division of labor" in relationships :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so stinking cute! I have plenty of these little gems myself. I don't think I could use a crockpot to make a single thing, yet, hubby dearest has already made a killer pot roast. Maybe I'll just let him be the crockpot king!
ReplyDeleteI've already explained to Boyfriend that I do not do dishes and I don't really vacuum either. And I don't cook.
ReplyDeleteI think maybe he's in trouble?
You are so cute in those pictures. I wasn't domestic at all before I was married. It freaked me out! My goal in life is to be as domestic as possible though so I try really hard. :) Now if I could just learn to sew, that would be fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThis is cute! I can relate in that I cannot (and will not) vaccum or iron and my husband likes to do both. We try to cook together and we're both learning as we go. We've been able to perfect many dishes now and we keep getting better at it!
ReplyDeleteI do not sew but I'm learning more and more about cooking and I actually enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteGirl, I do not cook. No way. I eat cheese and crackers when the hubs isn't home. I have, hanging above the kitchen sink, an old wooden plate that says "Happy is the girl who learns to cook, either from her mother or from a book." We laugh at it every. single. day.
ReplyDeletep.s. I'm moving to Milwaukee!!! Maybe we can go running/eating one of these days:)
ReplyDeleteI'm not married yet but my husband is doomed lol. I joke that I need a man who cooks and cleans. I manage to cook myself meals, but they are not good haha. And cleaning...why can't I have a maid?!
ReplyDeleteYou looked adorable for your bridal shower!!
I'm so jealous that your husband is so domestic. My boyfriend almost never cooks, certainly doesn't bake, and really struggles in the cleaning department. I'm not "wifely" by nature, but I do love cooking . . . and then I resent that I have to do 95% of it. haha! Maybe I'm just impossible to please. But I'm with Leeann on your bridal shower dress/shoes/etc.--adorable!
ReplyDeleteBahaha, I'm marrying a man who loves to cook too. Yes, he makes me feel undomestic but if he's willing to cook, I'm willing to do the other crap :).
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up! I think it's awesome Mike loves to bake and cook, I wish Nate knew how. I would be worried about my outfit too if I looked that cute!
ReplyDeleteMeghan you crack me up. It's never too late to learn domestic skills!!! I'm sure your husband would be a great teacher! Do you at least do the laundry? That's domestic! :)
ReplyDeleteI'm not so good at cleaning. But I don't care. My husband is the only one who uses cleaning products. I am more bothered by clutter than dirt and dust. (But you wouldn't know it to look at our space ... crap everywhere.) I'm also not so good at the cooking, but I work full time and have a long commute! So again ... I don't care. Maybe when we have kids I'll care. He's lucky that I care about clean clothes (but really only clean running clothes, but everything else gets washing in the process).
ReplyDeletehaha i love this... i totally had a wife fail moment this weekend... my husband was working a baseball game (4 hours in the sun)... and i didnt think about sunscreen. literally, he burns after 5 mins in the sun. therefore, today when he had to go to a promotional interview sporting a purple/red shade. woops.
ReplyDeleteoh, and the fact that i finally vaccumed up the hair in the bathroom today... i'm embarressed to admit how long it had been. you seriously could've made a wig.
This is too funny! My husband registered for most of our stuff and I had no clue what some of it was or what I was supposed to do with it.
ReplyDeleteum yes...i have so many wife fails. i can't cook...my husband gets to irritated with me because i have to ask if the hamburger is done or the eggs are scrambled enough....i can't even do the simple cooking things...but i am getting better :)
ReplyDeleteHaha you sound like me! I don't do the cooking AT ALL in our house (I "help"). I do know what we registered for, but we didn't register for many things for the kitchen!
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny! I kinda suck in the cooking department as well. Ok... no kinda, I do! lol
ReplyDeleteHahah!!! This just made me laugh out loud! I am with you on occasionally lacking street smarts, though! I've discovered that living in my first house (sans my parents) this year. I have no idea how to do basic things around the house like "flip a switch" when I've blown a fuse or where to direct the heating company man to the furnace (those are located in the basement- got it now!).
ReplyDeleteUmm and you look SO lovely in that picture with the balloons! That is gorgeous!!!
