Fall Goals.

Hellllloooooo!  Oh, dear friends, it's been quite the week, but I'm baaaaaaack and so happy to resume a normal schedule once again.  I am the assistant Student Council sponsor at my school, and for the past month, we've been Homecoming Headquarters.  We plan everything from Spirit Days to lunchtime activities to powderpuff (girls) football to Homecoming Court to the Homecoming Assembly and of course, the big Homecoming Dance.   Quite honestly though, even though I had to endure pounding music and grinding teenagers at the dance, and I was ready to fall asleep standing up, I realized just how lucky I am to do what I do - even if that means trying to shove 2,300 kids out the door and yelling at girls to put their heels back on:)

Anyway, now that I have time to sit and think, I've decided that I wanted to focus on a few "fall goals" to accomplish.  When things get stressful, it's easy to lose control, and so I'd like to refine my ways, if you will.  My goals?

1.)  Run smarter, not faster.

(Umm.  Hi.  I'd like her abs.  Thank yew.)

How do I plan to accomplish this?  Clearly, by lots of chocolate milk and "Runner's World".  In all seriousness, my piriformis muscle strain this summer really bruised my ego - and my ass.  It helped me realize that I wasn't as strong as I thought, and that stretching, strength exercises and foam rolling need to happen EVERY SINGLE DAY.  I also ran too fast, too soon.  It's natural to be competitive with your Garmin, but there is no shame to slowing down.  My race schedule contains a 5K, an 8K, a 15K and 10-miler all before December, so I need to make sure I'm in tip-top shape.

2.)  Eat better, not more.

I've always been a pretty healthy eater, but I know that I can do even better if I commit to COOKING ONE MEAL PER WEEK.  As many of you know, my amazing husband does all of the cooking.  However, I read about all of these bloggers who experiment with fun recipes, and I've decided I wanted to do the same.  So send some healthy recipes my way!

3.)  Do something that scares me each day.

This can range from eating in public by myself (which I did above - the quinoa salad at Bananas Foster Cafe) to tackling that hill on a run.

4.)  Live as the Europeans do.

By this, I mean that I need to focus on personal relationships and not get so caught up in to-do lists.  I want to live a quiet, simple life - visit with friends, sleep in, grab coffee on a whim, have a nice bottle of red wine with dinner.

Oh.  And have random dance parties to Mariah Carey with the "Shambles" crew.

Do you have any goals this fall?

  2. 2,300 kids?! Goodness gracious, there's only 400 at our high school. You deserve a day off for organizing all of that! :)

I love yoga too. It's so relaxing and invigorating at the same time and I don't realize what a good workout I'm getting. Love it!

  3. It'll be homecoming central here next week.... although I don't help plan it, it's just such a crazy big deal here in TX!

And goodness gracious that salad looks amazing.

  6. Those are great goals for this season! And I just know you can achieve them! Cooking is so fun- good luck finding easy delicious recipes! I don't have many haha, but that's what Pinterest is for! And I am terrified of eating alone in public too!!! Especially if I don't even have a book with me! I think we all need to live like the Europeans some time! :)

  8. God bless you for taking on all of the extra tasks at school. I’m sure all of the kids love you though. I believe it was you that talked about living as the Europeans do in the past and I wholeheartedly agree with that goal. Relationships are so much more important to to-do lists. I also know you’ll do awesome with your running goals and kick butt in all of your races by running smarter and NOT necessarily faster :)

  9. I love "do something everyday that scares you" - I've ALWAYS loved that. I need to start doing that more often too.

  10. I'm loving the "live like the Europeans" one. It's something I think we could really learn to live by - they say other countries use up almost all of their vacation time every year while only 30% of Americans take their vacation days off.

Bottom line: WE NEED MORE VACATION. And possibly more wine.

  12. I need to eat smarter, and less. I was so concerned about my half marathon that I went ahead and blew off worrying about eating a contained amount of calories. Now, I'm going to jump back on that train and count some cals and east smarter AND healther. Although tonight I'm starving and I'm going to make chicken and rice casserole...so not sure if that really fits.

  13. I really love your goals. The "eat better, not more" is something I'm trying to implement as well. I like that fall has great veggies, so it makes this part easier! xx

  17. Awesome goals! I have *tons* of healthy recipes. (that I've actually tried, and they taste good!) I don't know what you like to eat though, this is my first time here. So, if you tell what you want (what you really really want) then I'll throw some ideas your way! :)

By the way, I'm jealous you get to live in Chicago and have Julius Meinl within your reach. Jeal. Ous.

  18. I am loving your goal #1 & 2. I definitely ran too much too fast, but I did make sure to take my time and listen to my body. I need to get back to a training schedule!

Hope your goals are going well so far!
