The Top 5 Best Concerts You've Seen
I'm not exactly sure what makes a great concert - is it the performer? How he/she sounds? The effects? The crowd? The venue? For some, certain criteria is more important than others. To me, I try and look at the total package (and whether or not I can dance, naturally).
#5: 'N Sync
In college, I saw 'N Sync THREE TIMES with my sorority sisters. It was during their "No Strings Attached" tour and I had a regular habit of performing the "Bye Bye Bye" dance at my sorority functions. We even once tried to stalk them in Indianapolis. They were adorable and the special effects (especially when they performed as marionette dolls) was incredible. PLUS - a little known artist at the time, Pink, opened for them at the first concert. Who knew???
4.) NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK! Holla!
How can you not love these handsome fellas? I attended this reunion concert with my three besties and we had a BALL. We still knew the words to every song, we had amazing seats AND these guys still know how to move. Plus, one surefire way to measure a great concert? Whether or not you lose your voice!
3.) The Police
I've always loved The Police and I never tire of Sting - but I think this concert moved it's way up the list due to the venue, Chicago's own friendly confines, Wrigley Field. They played everything, including my fave, "Message in a Bottle".
#2: U2 at Soldier Field
Talk about a comprehensive set list! They played for HOURS and pretty much played everything you know and love. I literally cried when they played "Where the Streets Have No Name" and I couldn't believe the energy in the place. The lights, the sound - it was THE total package.
#1: Elton John and Billy Joel (Once again, at Wrigley Field)
WOW. These two together = an unstoppable (and partially drunk) duo. I was mesmerized by how great they sounded - not only singing their own songs, but each other's as well. While I went into this concert a bigger Elton fan, I left with a stronger appreciation for Billy. He told crazy stories, while Elton played every bit the diva. It was the experience of a lifetime. Plus, my hubby and I got married three days later - what a treat:)

ReplyDeleteSome of my favourites have been some Danish artists, but I have been to an 'N sync concert when I lived in Maryland. It was a birthday present for the familys 5 years old boy. Though he ended up not liking it said something like "Don't even think about ever taking me to a concert again". I enjoyed the show though:)

Ha ha I love that you mentioned the boy bands! I loved seeing Josh Groban, Carrie Underwood, Ingrid Michaelson, and James Blunt. Fun memories to think back on!

I have never been to one of those concerts! I think my sister saw 'N Sync though, and she tried to grab Lance Bass!

ReplyDelete#1 Sarah McLachlan - because I love her voice and her lyrics are hauntingly beautiful.
#2 Barenaked Ladies - because the Ladies are the best.
#3 The Eagles - last summer...we thought they were going to suck but they were fantastic.
#4 Simon and Garfunkel - the first reunion concerts in NYC...their music has always been a big part of my life so it was fab to see it live.
#5 Elton John - I've seen him many times with Billy Joel, but I saw him solo at the Garden and he was amazing.
i'm with you on seeing NKOTB (so much fun with my sisters!!!) and U2-- there are no words for how wonderful they are live. It was my dream come true.

We missed Elton and Billy the last time they were here together, and I'm bummed that they're not coming back! My dad was friendly with Billy back in the 70s, when he was still a kid from Long Island who would play around the city. My dad has the greatest pictures. Elton John, though, is the love of my life. We saw hi at MSG a few years ago and I cried. Hysterically. That one's tied with the time we saw Cher, also a few years ago, at Nassau Colisseum and I also cried. They're my two absolute favs!
