NYC - Day 1

NYC.  Sigh.  It just might be (next to Chicago) my favorite city in the U.S.  You see, I am a big city girl.  I love public transit, great restaurants, diversity, and the opportunity to do at least one hundred things at a moment's notice.

When my husband mentioned that he had been asked to stand up in a friend's wedding in upstate New York, I jumped at the chance to extend our trip and make sure NYC was included in our plans.  I visited back in 2009, and I know this might sound cheesy, but I just felt so ALIVE.  So HAPPY.   Therefore, the husband and I planned a jam-packed three days before heading north to Ithaca!

When we flew into town, the first thing we did after checking into our Midtown hotel was head to Times Square to purchase last minute Broadway tickets.  While we had several other choices, we ended up getting tickets to see "Hair".  I figured it was "weird" enough for my husband, who really isn't into the performing arts.  And by "weird", I was right...after the entire cast was FULL OUT NUDE at the end of the first act.  I totally forgot about that.  Oops.

Concrete jungle where (Broadway) dreams are made of...

But let's back up!  We ended up grabbing dinner right before the show at the famous Shake Shack.  It was most definitely worth the 15 minute wait!  The Shack Burger and Chocolate Shake = pure heaven!

Pardon the old guy's head...he just wanted his burgers, too...

"Hair".  Honestly, it was GOOD.  The cast was incredibly talented, and the theater serves their wine in sippy cups to avoid spilling.  Done!  However, after everyone bared it all right before intermission, the hubs had had enough, and bribed me with wine and dessert if we could leave early.  While I had plenty of ideas of places to head in order to stalk Bethenny Frankel (The Gansevoort, anyone???), we decided to hit up the famous Sardis right next door.

What can I say?  It was a very "Muppets Take Manhattan" kind of night...

Stay tuned for more re-caps!

Oh, and P.S.  I haven't forgotten about my giveaway for hitting 300 readers.  There are actually going to be TWO giveaways, and I will post next week!

  9. It's funny that you mention the Muppets cause I was totally thinking that when I looked at the restaurant picture... "...together again...." oh, I could recite the whole movie. I guess no Kermit sightings there?

  12. I'm a medium size town girl at heart but I do like VISITING bigger cities! I think that's why I like the Twin Cities so much... they're bigger cities (although not compared to NYC) but have a small town kind of feel.

  17. When I was 19 I went and saw Chicago and we couldn't afford to eat at Sardis so we went in and stole some matchbooks. Being a theatre major I had to show all my buddies that I had been there.
