I write this letter with a full stomach heavy heart. You see, something happened when I was in Italy. Something magical. You weren't around, and I had to find something - someone - to fulfill my coffee fix. And I found it - a tall, dark and handsome cappuccino. And espresso. And americano.
You see, I cheated. On you. With Italian coffee. AND I LIKED IT.
You and I have had a very long, committed relationship. I will never forget when I first met you: it was the fall of 2002, and I was in Phoenix. A friend of mine suggested I visit you and taste my very first cup of deliciousness. You gave all of that to me in the form of a white chocolate mocha. From the first sip, I was hooked. And through the years, our relationship blossomed.
You taught me that it's ok - in fact, it's acceptable - to spend $4 on a cup of coffee. And as my taste buds matured, you introduced me to a world of new and exciting possibilities: sugar-free syrup, soy milk, hot tea infusions, and the piece de resistance: the dark cherry mocha.
You showed me that breakfast CAN consist of more than just coffee. It can also come in the form of a spinach and feta wrap, a banana, and sometimes (when I am super crabby), a chocolate chip cookie.
You always knew how to make the holidays special - those red cups of yours always brightened my mornings.
Sometimes, you allowed me to overindulge. Perhaps I visited you three times in one day. But it didn't matter. You always welcomed me with open arms - especially after I opened my wallet.
Despite our fond memories, I know deep down that you cheated on me. You provided these same memories for other people too. And sometimes, you got a little greedy. I mean - $4 each day certainly adds up. Yet despite my loyalty, you continued to charge me each morning.
However, there comes a time in life when you have to put yourself first. You see, I know that by purchasing a wonderfully shiny coffee machine from Williams Sonoma will allow me to save some money and create that same warm feeling (and coffee) in my own home. I am sure I will still walk by you each morning, and smile fondly as I pass your bright green letters. And I will remember our moments together and how they've changed me. But I promise to keep moving forward.
And so, Starbucks, I guess you could say that in this relationship, I choose Italian coffee me.
Love,
Meghan

DUDE. what about VIA?
ReplyDeleteYou are not forgiven for quoting Kelly Killorean Kook-a-doodle-do Bensimon ;)
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm pretty terrified to go to Italy and fall in love with the coffee because then I will never be able to find good coffee where I live. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteDear Meghan,
ReplyDeleteI've never had a cup of coffee or tea in my life. Yep. It is true.
I cannot understand this breakthrough but I support you in your new relationship with the coffee machine that you have brought into your home.
Good luck friend,
Faiza
Haha this is too cute! I hate the fact that when I was in Italy I wasn't a coffee drinker. I think a coffee machine is a great idea.
ReplyDeleteI expected that Bachelor breakup, but now this!?
ReplyDeleteI'm devastated, but I understand. I've been doing a little cheating of my own lately...making coffee in the Keurig at work rather than stopping off at my usual Starbucks.
It is kind of nice to have that extra $20 for the weekend. :)
true love<3 haha
ReplyDeleteHmmm. Okay. I mean, we bonded over Starbucks, but I can definitely support you in this new endeavor! :)
ReplyDeleteYou found another....wow! I'm sure this new relationship will bring you tons of extra pocket change!
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh, which espresso machine are you getting? May I live vicariously through you?
ReplyDeleteYou crack me up!
ReplyDeleteI find it very difficult to find coffee anywhere that rivals the one we make at home--definitely not at Starbucks.
ReplyDeleteHoooo boy, I think anything's better than Starbucks. :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I work there! Hahaha!
aww! haha! Poor starbs!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a love of coffee like you do!
good girl. starbucks is soooo overrated. $4 for sugary, milky coffee? no thank you! and italian is always better.
ReplyDeleteLuckily we don't have a starbucks where I live... I would love to have one, but I would spent my whole salary there. We got a great new coffee machine a few months ago and I love it. But during holidays a visit or 10 to Starbucks is a must:)
ReplyDeleteHaha Italian coffee will do that to you! I'll be in Chicago August 5-10! Would love to meet up!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!!
Oh! I left you an award on my blog =)
ReplyDeleteOh man! I sure miss the real European coffee! Espresso especially! Starbucks just does NOT do espresso justice. So good you can drink it STRAIGHT?!? Who Knew?!? :)
ReplyDeletehilarious! but you're right--that dark cherry mocha is really something special. man oh man.
ReplyDeleteYou are forgiven girl. ;) I still love Starbucks and we've been in a loyal relationship ever since we met, however, and I have to admit it...if there's any chance for me to get something cheaper (yes, Starbucks is demanding) I'm going for that cheaper version. ;) Especially over here. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a fab day.
Oh. My. God. We need to be bffs. I think I'm in love with everything about you. Is that creepy?
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my hood in the blogosphere...I think we are going to get along, you and me :)
