Top 5 Reasons Why I Might Be Off My Rocker.

The other day, my husband made a comment about taking our children (who do not yet exist) to visit me on Sundays. In the loony bin. Because he thinks I am crazy. (But he still married me, so I don't really feel sorry for him.) Then I wondered if everyone feels crazy from time to time. What does it mean to be labeled "crazy"? When you're losing control of your life? When you can be yourself no matter what? Are we all just crazy in our own special way? Does everyone fly their freak flag proudly? Am I really crazy, or am I just unique? Maybe quirky? I'm not really sure, but I think it would make for a fascinating psychological study someday.

I usually just tell my husband that Jesus loves me no matter what.

Anyway, a few specific actions of mine triggered these looming questions, so I thought I'd turn it into a Top 5 list, because that's usually what I do on Thursdays. So, perhaps you will all think I AM crazy, but this week's topic?

The Top 5 Things That Make Me Crazy Super Awesome

5.) My Car Radio Station Habits.

Like everyone, I have pre-set radio stations. I don't know about you, but mine must always be in ascending order, from left to right: 93.1, 97.1, 101.9 , etc. It drives my husband crazy when I a.) Flip through them at warp speed, and b.) Always flip in the correct order. Meaning, if I am listening to 97.1, and I want to change the station, I go back to 93.1 and start there - I don't continue on to 101.9. Still following me??? Apparently, this is grounds for a psych eval.

4.) My Curiosity About Dinosaurs.

The only real fight I have gotten into with my husband was about prehistoric creatures. Dinosaurs. Because clearly we are 12 years old. My argument? That I can accurately impersonate a pterodactyl. His argument? How does ANYONE really know what a dinosaur sounds like, since they existed before humans. My counter-argument? That by studying fossils, bone structures, etc - we can tell a lot about the body and make VERY educated guesses. Right? It makes sense, doesn't it???

He still doesn't buy it. Do you?

3.) My Performance Fantasies.

Not THAT, sicko. But sometimes when I daydream, I imagine singing in front of a crowd. There is NO question that I am tone deaf. But, when I hear "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey, I imagine myself back in college, singing the verses as a solo performance during our school's Songfest competition. When I hear the "Halo/Walking on Sunshine" mash-up from "Glee", I imagine performing it in front of a crowd of friends at a bar. Why? I HAVE NO CLUE.

But seriously, that mash-up is amazing and I run to it all of the time.

Check out the video - it has the song, but just still shots of the performance. All of the live videos were either in Spanish or super poor quality.

2.) I like to have Phil Collins dance parties.

I know I've blogged about this before, but it wasn't just a "phase", as SOME people believed:) The love of Phil is here to STAY.

And during said dance parties, I play my air drums, because that's how he rolls, y'all.

1.) I am convinced I am dying of soy milk poisoning.

Seriously. I love soy milk. I drink it ALL OF THE TIME. Not because I need it, but because it just makes my Starbucks taste so dang good. And then the problems started. I don't sleep. I have super weird reproductive issues and will spare you the deets. And my hips have grown to epic proportions. So I did some research and according to the websites that pop up when you google "dangers of soy milk", well, IT'S SO ACCURATE. You know who I blame? Jeremy Piven. Had he not griped about his man-boobs, I never would have considered the soy.

He's an ass, but perhaps he's on to something...

I don't think I'm crazy. I'm just misunderstood.

  4. I am totally with you on 3 and 5. I constantly drive around singing in my car and imagining that I am performing for people. Despite the fact that I do not sing well. But that totally does not stop me.

Oh, and 5. I do the exact same thing. Except mine are in order by which station I like the best. Dustin thinks I'm weird, his are just programmed by which one he thought of first. But for real, I need my #1 spot to be my fav station.

Oh and I totally started watching Glee online. I'm in love.

  8. I believe that you can imitate the pterodactyl!

And I wouldn't believe Jeremy Piven about anything. He also claimed tuna gave him mercury poisoning and that's why he had to quit Speed-the-Plow.

    Love your blog!

  11. I'm with you on the dinosaur stuff - I do a mean velociraptor impersonation, and once did it the Field Museum out of solidarity for my befallen brethren - much to the shock and horror of Jeremy who kindly whispered "We're in public! What are you doing?"

Maybe my velociraptor and your pterodactyl can get together and enjoy some Phil Collins.

(PS my word verification is 'boderax' which sounds like some sort of mortal kombat weapon and I am amused)

  14. You are most likely crazy and your psychosis is probably from the soy milk. I did little browsing on Web of Science for some peer reviewed articles on soy milk, looks kind of hit or miss. The mixed bag gets a bit better if you include estrogen, the pros and cons are more exaggerated but no clear consensus. However a straight up Google search led me to the cause of your problems. Soy milk is making you gay. Jim Rutz, a well respected "journalist", has investigated the effects of soy milk consumption and reported all his findings in a 6 part World Daily Net series, available here (http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=53327). In the interest of time I only read the title (from the google link) but it makes sense. Consider the facts. Music, dinosaurs, performance fantasies, Phil Colins; could it be any more obvious. You are suffering from all of the symptoms of a family-friendly-middle-class-acceptable gay sitcom character. I mean come on, a freaking Glee reference inside your performance fantasy section. Unfortunately in order to remain impartial, like my heroes at Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, Lifetime, etc, I cannot give any advice on the subject. So good luck with that and Godspeed.

Oh one other thing there were a few articles showing reduced breast cancer rates from soy milk consumption vs. normal-God-fearing-American milk. The primary factor being a lack of mammalian estrogen metabolites in soy milk as it's not from a mammal and not really milk. To learn more hit up your local library where, as Glenn Beck says books are free.

  16. HA HA HA I'm so on your side of this whole thing! Plus I do a fantastic, and 100% accurate, impression of a velociraptor. No joke, it's fantastic. Jordan sometimes does not appreciate it as much as he should.

  21. I remember from psych 101 is if you question your sanity, it means you're NOT insane. I used to have similar fantasies to that of yours with soy milk, except it was with Activia yogurt. Don't ask.
