* Changing an insurance plan from "single" to "family". When the lovely lady at Blue Cross asked me if I was now on the family plan, I was like, "Huh?" - and then I realized - I am now married. And my husband is my family. Duh.
* Speaking of said insurance, you know when you're an adult when you have to fork over $900 for medical expenses. And you know you can afford it so you do so without even flinching. Because it's YOUR HEALTH. Boring, right? Umm, I remember when $900 could buy me not one, but two trips to Vegas. Or an entire wardrobe.
* You sell your car and drive your husband's car to save money, even though it's built for a man and has something called a supercharger. According to teenage boys, it's a pretty "pimp ride". When I bought my first car with my dad, I told him that all I wanted was a cute little car with a built-in CD player...
* You smile, bite your tongue, and decide to take the high road in certain situations because it's just not worth it the drama. Save the drama for yo mama!
* You decide NOT to have one more glass of wine with dinner, because really, who needs the empty calories? (This, I feel I need to work on becoming less adult-like...)
* You decide to do your own taxes instead of calling daddy who will, in turn, call his accountant.
Yeah, me too, kid. Perhaps this list is more about how lame I have really become.

Putting money aside for new blinds instead of a bar tab.
I think being an adult is all about perception! You can still be an adult and enjoy growing up. I mean, new blinds are kind of fun!

For the average person you become an adult when the frequency of life threatening activities you participate in drops below once per year (0.8 nHz).

ReplyDeleteWhat makes me feel like an adult is commuting 4 hours a day.
Cooking dinner every night rather than going out because it's healthier and cheaper.
Grocery shopping once a week and spending $200 on food.
I can go on and on...I am quite lame myself.
What makes me feel like an adult is my childhood friends turning 30 and having babies--umm...I can still remember when we were young. Also, instead of taking a vacation we put money into house projects--but I do love my hardwood floors!
ReplyDeleteEVERYONE I know being married. Bills. Going to bed at 10, not because I have to be up early but just because I'm tired. Not really understanding the whole "Jonas Brothers" obsession. Getting mad when I'm at the coffee shop and there are loud, obnoxious girls (and remembering that I used to BE one of those girls).

ReplyDeleteDoing my taxes always makes me feel like a big girl. Paying bills. I spent an hour on the phone the other day refinancing my car. Pretty much anything that involves me being responsible.

I still feel young at heart but ya, bills and all that yucky jazz definitely makes me feel more adultish.
