I've lived in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs my entire life. I love the fact that Chicago sits on a beautiful lake. I love the fact that you're either a Cubs fan or a Sox fan, and there is NOTHING in between. (For the record, I could care less about baseball, so when people ask, I just cop out and explain that I am a fan of the social opportunities that come with attending games). I love that there is ALWAYS construction on the surrounding highways, regardless of the time of year. I love that I saw President Obama accept the nomination for the presidency right in the middle of Grant Park, and yes, I was disappointed when Chicago lost the bid for the 2016 Olympics. I love Chicago. It's my home. It's as simple as that. But...
...I am cheating on Chicago. With New York.
My Catholic guilt is rearing its ugly head. Ever since I visited New York for the first time this summer with TEN TEENAGERS in tow (this is a separate post entirely), I was hooked. I fell in love. HARD. After all of those years watching Carrie Bradshaw galavant through the streets of NYC, and daydreaming about cupcakes and the Village - I was finally able to experience it myself!
Seriously. It's gotten BAD. I now shop for apartments on Craigslist, preferably in Brooklyn. I daydream about hanging out in coffee shops a la Gossip Girl and attending gallery openings. And for you NYC bloggers out there, well, let's just say that I am quite envious of your NYC location:)

ReplyDeleteI'm going to make a generalization and say that every girl who has "mastered" Chicago hearts NYC. It's like the next challenge. We know how to get around a big city and make it feel small and find the perfect coffee shop, book store, boutique, thrift shop, pub, dance club, etc. It's like NYC is the only place that can challenge and excite us. At least that's how I feel.
ReplyDeleteI also fantasize about living in Paris. I was there for 3 days. I think the four years of high school French which became 6 phrases when I arrived makes me able to rock that b@tch out.

I was born in NYC and live there until we moved to Chicago when I was 10. I moved around A LOT after school, and still love, and dream of one day moving back to, both cities!
