Half-Marathon Training, Weeks 4 & 5

Well folks, it's been a wild few weeks, so I apologize for slacking with my posts (though I am sure many of you could care less about my running recaps).  Once again, I blame it on the #casualtiesofmotherhood.

Going back to work has been a big adjustment, and as a result, I haven't been able to fit in every training run.  But, given all of the changes, I am still thrilled with what I was able to accomplish!

Week 4: (Training plan in black.  What I accomplished in blue.)

Monday: Rest Day (3 miles at a 9:47 pace)

Tuesday: 3 mile run (3 miles at a 9:47 pace again)

Wednesday:  4 mile pace (Nothing)

Thursday: 3 mile run (Nothing)

Friday: Rest Day (60 minute Pure Barre class)

Saturday: 7 mile long run (7 miles at a 10:07 pace)

Sunday: Cross-training (Lots of abs!)

* Thoughts:  My Monday and Tuesday runs had a couple bursts of speed, which was fun, but my goal is just to remain slow and steady.  I want to focus on building mileage and NOT speed.  Also, while all runs felt good, I am getting nervous about not incorporating enough abs/strength.

Week 5:

Monday: Rest Day (Rest Day)

Tuesday: 3 mile run (3 miles at a 9:30 pace)

Wednesday: 4 mile run (2 miles at a 9:38 pace.  I blame this one on the baby.)

Thursday: 3 mile run (3 miles at a 10:07 pace, plus a Nike Training Club workout)

Friday: Rest Day (60 minute Pure Barre class)

Saturday: 8 mile long run (8 miles at a 10:10 pace)

(What?  You don't listen to Seals & Crofts while you run?)

Thoughts:  Running on a treadmill for 8 miles is boring.  Also, I need new running playlist suggestions, so shoot some my way!

I cannot believe this half is in 7 weeks.  I am feeling great and proud of my accomplishments despite the craziness of being a new mama:) My first race is next weekend - a local 5K - and a week after that is the big Shamrock Shuffle!  I am definitely NOT looking to be a hero in either race, but I look forward to the adrenaline and excitement of racing in general!

How are YOU???  Besides running playlist suggestions, anything you want to tell me?  Are you a runner?  Any races coming up?

  1. I love your training recaps and I definitely don't think you're doing bad AT ALL!! Random Question: Is your husband a runner? I was wondering if y'all ran any together... Glad to see overall your training is going good though!! Good luck on the 5k this weekend! :)

  3. I love that you're getting a Pure Barre class in every week. Awesome. What 5k is this weekend? I'm getting over a cold that really threw a wrench in an otherwise great training cycle. But almost no running in the last big week before taper = mucho no bueno.

  4. I broke up with the treadmill when the weather hit 25 degrees. Although, I do understand the appeal with a baby napping and having a treadmill. Way to rock your training!

  5. You are doing great! Treadmill running is so tough, but if I can find something good on HGTV or Bravo, it really helps :-)

  6. Great job, Meghan!! The race will be here before you know it! We have a 5 mile trail race coming up in April but nothing until then. Just training for right now.

  7. What a strong training week!!! Keep it up! Most I've done on a tready is 10 miles, but I read (Made my nook large print). I'm running a 5k this weekend!!! My second race pregnant (First was a botched half marathon with horrific weather conditions!) and probably my last. Anything Beyonce should make it on your play list.
