Housekeeping Items!

Hi guys!  Just popping in for some quick announcements!

1.) If you're in the Chicagoland area, there are TWO events happening this Saturday.  The first is the "Run for Boston 5K" in Libertyville, IL!  It's not too late to sign up for this amazing cause!  And, if you can't make it, you can run a virtual 5K, which includes some incredible prizes!
Run for Boston 5K

Secondly, the Family Sports Festival, sponsored by World Sport Chicago, is also taking place on Saturday from 11:00-5:00 in Seward Park.  From fitness classes to free health screenings, there are many opportunities for you and your family to see what the Chicago fitness scene has to offer.

If that's not cool enough, there are tons of fitness class deals that will be offered as well, including:

75% off at CorePower - $50 for One-Month of Unlimited Yoga Classes ($185 Value)
70% off at Dance SPA - $15 for a 5-Class Zumba Punch Card ($50 Value)
71% off at Monkey Bar - $50 for One-Month Membership ($175 Value)

2.) I have a few ideas for some upcoming posts.  If you can / want to help me out, I am looking specifically for:

* What do YOU wish people had told you about being pregnant?
* Do you have any juicing recipes to share?

3.) Mike and I started our baby registry!  Some of you have already provided me with awesome recommendations on what we DO NOT need.  And based on our own research, we've made a few decisions on items like the stroller and baby carriers.  However, I would LOVE a few recommendations on the following:

* Monitors
* High chair
* Bottles (I do plan to nurse, if that matters/helps)
* Random:  How many sippy cups, toddler bowls, etc. do you really need???

Thanks, loves!  Happy Weekend!

  1. In terms of nursing and bottles--I had some VERY fussy bottle babies (like, none of them took a bottle past 4 months--mostly my fault with not offering it enough.) So, my advice is to only buy one or two bottles at first to make sure your baby "takes" to them. You can always go out and buy a bunch once you *know* which brand your little one likes best!

  2. Dont have any advice on the pregnancy department haha, but I wrote this post on juicing (http://feather10.blogspot.com/2013/06/lets-start-juicing.html) and this website has TONS of great juices (http://juicerecipes.com/). Can't wait to read that post!

  3. Oh there are definitely some truths about pregnancy that no one ever told me and that I'm now finding out. I think I'll probably put an entire post together after the pregnancy because I keep finding out more! Lol.

    I've heard really good things about Medela bottles from a relative who is nursing so that is what I also chose to register for.

    My sister-in-law and cousin both nanny and they said I absolutely HAD to get a video baby monitor. They said it is really helpful when you hear noises and stuff to see if the baby is just sleeping or actually needs help. That way, there are less unnecessary wake-ups for the baby. Looking at online reviews and talking to friends that have them, I registered for the Motorola digital monitor. It also has a voice option on the camera so you can talk to your baby through it. How cool is that?! Also, price wise, it is in the middle of the road as far as video monitors go.

    You're welcome to look up my registries if you'd like some ideas of what we went with. I spent about 2 months deciding what I wanted to put on there. :) (I'm registered at Babies R Us and Buy Buy Baby.)

    Best of luck! :)

  4. Get a video monitor. I've heard good things about summer infant touch screen one. Still need to get it. I love our space saver high chair. Yes it takes up a chair but we can take it with us to family or friends that don't have high chairs. You know you won't need this until they are 6 months right? My sil set hers up already and isn't due for a month in a tiny house with a puppy. Chase used the avent bottles when he got a boob break. It's a good idea to have them ready to go just in case. He got dehydrated before my milk came in and we had to do a bottle of formula. I was glad I had some bottles and formula. I was hysterical because I didn't know how to do any of it. But some people have to try several bottles. Are you following nancy holtzman on twitter yet she is the baby guru. If you have issues getting baby to take bottle don't try 100 ask her for tips. Again I wouldn't worry about sippies and bowls. I saw a pin some where that tells you how much stuff to register for depending on guest list. We have a lot of sippys. There are sippy stages. So at 6 months you try one that is like a bottle nipple and then one straw like etc. then when they are 1 and have a straw sippy you like you buy a crap ton because you can never find the straw. We probably have 10-12 bowls and 2 plates and 3 sets of silverware. Kid still dumps his stuff out of the bowl and uses his hands ;)

  7. I just ran my first 5k recently and it was sooo much fun (helps that I was covered in bubbles the whole time, haha) but I may have been bit by the bug and am looking to running another as soon as possible. So interested in the virtual 5k you mentioned...

  8. Rock n Play sleeper!! Aka the best invention for newborns. I agree with one of the ladies above - it's a good idea to maybe get one bottle from a couple of different brands to see which one the baby takes the best. We had a bit of difficulty getting K to take a bottle and I was grateful we didn't register all for one brand.

  9. i am in the process of posting about what we decided to register for- i did one yesterday and will have two next week, if that helps! i know it can be overwhelming.

    we went with a samsung video monitor (at babies r us), and dr. brown bottles. we only put a few of the sippy cup/toddler bowl kind of things since it will be a while before baby needs them... but i have no idea how many you actually need!

    i didn't see a ton of options for a high chair. but i think the most important thing is deciding if you want one that straps on to one of your dining chairs, or a free standing one- that will narrow down your choices, and then i just picked depending on style!
