pregnant. HOW DID THIS HAPPEN???

First of all, I have to thank everyone for all of their congratulations and kind wishes. Mike and I are overwhelmed by the support. And yes...the video. When you're married to a tech geek, these things happen:) And how out of control is my husband's hair??? It's his most prized posssession. Anyway, here's a little update as to where we are in this crazy journey!
When I last discussed my difficulty conceiving for the past
two years, I mentioned that I decided to throw caution to the wind and sign up
for the Chicago Marathon. My rationale
was that I couldn’t just sit around and wait for this baby. It may never come. And wouldn’t you know…I WAS ALREADY PREGNANT
WHEN I REGISTERED. (Note: If I had been
further along I would have taken a test before I threw down $250, but technology
isn’t ready to detect pregnancy, like, five days after it happens). Also, I clearly have a bib for sale in case anyone is interested...
At the same time, I decided to meet with my doctor. She mentioned that if I wasn’t pregnant by
February (making this 2.2 years of trying to conceive), it was time to explore
my options. So, February arrived and I made an
appointment. I left that appointment
feeling slightly overwhelmed. I needed a
blood test. A fallopian tube test. (I
still don’t know what that entails!) An ultrasound. But wouldn’t you know, as I was discussing
this plan with my doctor, I WAS ALREADY PREGNANT. The next time I visited her office, I was
there for a blood test – to confirm pregnancy.
Needless to say, Mike and I were shocked. I had a feeling a few days before I took the
test that I was pregnant. I felt good,
but definitely “off”. But I suppose I had it
in my head that we were going to go through all of this fertility treatment and
struggle for at least a year or so.
After two years, I just didn’t believe we could do it on our own.
So, here we are. Our
little peanut is due November 2nd, and we couldn’t be
happier:) I am currently 15 weeks pregnant. (Well, I think I'm really 14 weeks, but my doctor moved me up due to this MASSIVE baby. Gulp.) The first trimester was ok...filled with lots of nausea, sleepiness and eating (I crave fruit like nobody's business), but now? I feel amazing.
I have a few posts in mind to bring you up to speed, but I promise my uterus won't dominate this blog:) Stay tuned!
And, just because I refuse to post a belly picture because I look like I just swallowed ten burritos, here is a photo of some cute baby shoes.
(Update: Ok, I MIGHT post bump pics. I am not sure yet. Any thoughts?)

Your story sounds VERY similar to mine. In fact, I ran a half pregnant and didn't know it! I had an 11/13/11 little boy (who was THREE days late)...and didn't know I was pregnant until 7/8 weeks because I didn't think it was going to happen.

What a complete surprise after such a long time!! I'm measuring a week ahead but I don't think my due date will change since we did treatments. You're due just a couple weeks before me! PLEASE do baby bump posts :) haha Dylan keeps telling me that I look like I've eaten too many tacos!

ReplyDeleteYay - I am so happy for you!!! I kept trying to comment but for some reason I can't comment from my iPad. You are gonna be such a great mom and I'm so happy everything worked out in the end. If you need any advice on anything, let me know (I know how annoying unwanted advice is, so I will try to refrain from offering unsolicited info!). Glad the morning sickness went away, that was the worst. Hopefully the rest of the pregnancy goes well and you aren't too miserable being on your feet all day teaching. I managed to coach golf on my feet all day up until a week before I delivered (although that was only 5 hours a day vs. an entire school day) and now that I'm back to coaching golf again I feel like I have so much more energy! I didn't even realized how tired pregnancy made me until I wasn't pregnant anymore. You are in for such a wonderful experience! Also, Happy Mother's-To Be Day!!!

ReplyDeleteI was wondering if this had happened "spontaneously" (so to speak) or if you'd begun the fertility treatment process yet . . . even more magical that you became pregnant right as you were planning the next steps. Think of all the money you'll save! All for cute baby clothes! :) I think the answer re: posting bump pics is going to be a resounding YES. Duh, of course we want to see your cute pregnant belly! You've been wanting one for so long, and you're gonna be the most adorable pregnant person around. I'm so excited for you!

Awwwwwwwww, I have a NEW found LOVE for posts like this now that I have one of my own ;-) I know I've said what feels like a million times, but I'm SO incredibly happy for you guys. CANNOT believe that you were pregnant at the same time as your doctor's appointment AND signing up for the race. Wasn't having it be a surprise just the coolest thing too?? I was JUST thinking about our own fateful day JUST a bit ago today. Although we hadn't been trying (long if at all haha ;-)) I had in my mind that we would need help because my cycle had been wrecked by BC over the years. Anywhooo... Excited for you and cannot wait to read those "bumpdates" :-)

It took 14 months to conceive my first time. The second time only took 6 months. Both times, before I took the test, I knew it would be positive. It's weird how these instincts kick in. I also knew both times what I was having. Yes, I could have been wrong, but I wasn't. Ha!
