Last night, one of my all-time favorite movies was on TV - "Casablanca". In addition to its famous lines ("Here's lookin' at you, kid") and tragic love story, I adore the refined beauty of Ingrid Bergman.
It reminded me how much I love old movies. My love for old movies started at a young age, when I first saw the epic southern tale, "Gone With the Wind".
I remember daydreaming about the Old South: women wearing beautiful hoop skirts, chivalrous men and lavish parties. There was something about Scarlet O'Hara - despite her many flaws, I wanted to BE her. I wanted to be admired by many male suitors and follow my heart. To this day, it is still my favorite movie of all time.
There's something magical about old movies. Perhaps it's the graceful beauty of the stars. Perhaps it's the fact that men actually courted women. Maybe it's the innocence of a simpler time. Regardless, I will always have a soft spot for old Hollywood.

My favourite old movies are Shirley Temple movies i watch them over and over :)
I am more of an Alfred Hitchcock fan than anything else when it comes to old movies. Especially if said movie includes Grace Kelly.

ReplyDeleteI haven't really seen too many old movies unless you count The Wizard of Oz, The King and I, Sound of Music, and Mary Poppins (and I love all of those). However, I do LOVE, LOVE White Christmas - it's one of my favorite Christmas movies ever.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE Old Movies. So much!! I just saw one the other day called "When Ladies Meet". It was kind of more intense but so good. I love all the ones you chose too, though. Gah. Have you read "Gone With the Wind"? You need to.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Cary Grant is probably the sexiest man ever. I love him. Watch "Father Goose" too, it has him and Leslie Caron and is just delightful.

Out of all of those, I've only seen Gone with the Wind. I own An Affair to Remember but have never sat down and watched it!

How pathetic is it that I haven't seen any of these movies?! I am adding them to my Netflix queue right now...literally!
