One of the elements that always set TDM apart from other barre classes (for me, at least), was the focus on abs and PLANKS. We started with those right off the bat (after a warm-up), and I was reminded how tough the class would be. There was also a lot of focus on triceps during the arm workout, and we then moved to the barre for the dreaded "thigh" series. Halfway through class, I was sweating like a pig.
After thigh, we focused on the seat, and did these one-legged tailbone lifts that left my whole body shaking. From there, we moved back to abs, and then to LOTS of stretching, which is something that many barre classes lack, in my opinion. Overall, it was definitely the challenging workout I remembered, and I cannot wait for the studio to open soon. The owner, Kady, is super friendly and encouraging, and I really like the fact that she actually adjusts and corrects your form in a subtle way that doesn't make you feel embarrassed about it.
The equipment: We used the ball a TON, which I have a love-hate relationship with:)

The Saturday participants (I'm the sweaty mess in front on the left). For some reason, my friend Meghan was cut off, but she was there too! Hi Meg!
If you live in the area and are interested, Kady is hosting another free preview class on Saturday, 9/6 at 8:00 a.m. at The Dance Workshop. Also, there is a free "Planks in the Park" event on Saturday, 9/27 at 8:30 a.m. at Centennial Park (also in Orland). If you're interested, you can leave a comment below and I can pass your name along, or you can email kady@thedaileymethod.com to sign up! I know that I go ON and ON about barre classes, but I can't tell you guys enough how much they've helped me, from pregnancy to post-partum recovery to running. I truly believe in them:) So come join me if you're interested! :)
I'm so impressed by all of the classes that you take and try! I never go to any fitness classes, but if I had more time I would love to try some of them. It's just hard to fit it in with my work and training schedules!
ReplyDeleteI wish I lived closer because I've been wanting to try the Dailey Method for a long time! I've done several Pure Barre classes and loved them, and wanted to see how the two compared. You are so right that these barre classes are super challenging and much harder than they look! Who knew that moving your muscles just that tiny little inch could be so tough, right?
