The Obligatory 2012 Resolutions Post.

Hey friends!  I hope your year is off to an amazing start!  Like everyone else on the planet, I thought I'd share the rationale behind some of my goals for the year.  I've always been a very goal-oriented person.  Additionally, I'm usually pretty organized and committed to achieving said goals.   While I may not have achieved everything I set out to in 2011, overall, I am very pleased with my commitment and view my 2012 goals as more of a maintenance than anything new or groundbreaking.

My other intention?  To re-assess my progress at the end of each month, and if necessary, adjust the goals accordingly.  Because goals should be flexible, y'all!

Fitness/Running

* To listen to my body and take rest days when needed.  I've been going at it 6-7 days/week as I try and get my body back into long-distance running shape.  I cannot be afraid to take time off.

* To run a sub 2:00 half-marathon.  I know this is totally possible, as my half PR is 2:03.  I'm signed up for a half in April and another in May, so we'll see!

* To NOT rule out the possibility of a full marathon.  I've trained for full marathons but have actually never completed one, as crazy as that sounds.  My first attempt ended in injury, and my second attempt ended because "life got in the way".  The Chicago Marathon also happens to fall during my busiest time at work, and when you combine that with the fact that I hoped I'd be pregnant by now, a full marathon just never seemed like it was in the cards for me.  However, I just placed an application to run the ING New York City Marathon in November, so who knows?!?!?!

* To continue to practice yoga and Bar Method once a week (each). I've been doing this for months now, so I just want to continue.

Running Heart

Blog

* To post three times per week.  Let's face it.  I will never be a 5 days/week type of blogger.  I would, however, like to schedule posts in advance and work on QUALITY over QUANTITY.

* To take more quality photos and not be so reliant on my iPhone.

* To add one new link-up feature (in the works)!

Personal

* To cook one meal per week for my adorable and much-deserving husband.  I'd like to thank Pinterest for the amazing inspiration and for the multitude of recipes available!

* To FINALLY, FOR REALSIES quit the Starbucks.  My DeLonghi Nespresso machine is amazing, and it deserves some loving!

* To "unplug" from social media one evening per week.

* To become my own version of a "Crazy Couponing Lady".  I mean, I'm not going to lie to you.  Kourtney Kardashian inspired me on this one.  Don't judge.

  4. Many of your goals are very similar to mine. :) I'm not hell bent on following a training schedule if my body is screaming at me to stop. That was my #1 lesson learned in 2011. (albeit a little too late)

I hope you get into NyC. It is seriously an awesome race. It was my first marathon- 10 years ago. I'm also hoping to get in this year.
And you'll definitely get your sub 2:00 half. Which one are you planning for in April?

    Cheers to an amazing 2012!!

  6. I really need to learn to unplug more as well... I think once Izzy moves out here I'm going to give it a shot.

  7. Yes, let's help one another coupon! I'll share my tips on the blog hopefully too. I need to quit Starbucks because my coffee maker works just fine!

  8. Great goals! It seems like running a sub-2 hour half marathon is a really popular goal in the blogging world (it's one of mine too!)

I hope you get in to the NYC Marathon!

  9. Great goals (very similar to mine :-D). You can do it! I am doing a half in March and a full in October (haven't done a full since 2004 - which was two kids and a wedding ago... should be interesting).

  11. i had to giggle when i saw mention of starbucks in this post. i had an inkling it'd make it in here :)

oh how i love the couponing culture of americans. we don't really have the equivalent here in canada so i am FASCINATED by this but happy that i cannot get obsessed as the closest US grocery store is a 75 minute drive away. i don't think my subway pass will get me there. thank goodness!

(i did feel a kinship with kim when she picked up the microwavable kraft dinner while kourtney went bananas at the grocery store. DELISH!)

  12. i'm doing 2 a month...like one big one and then a teeny one...it's the little changes that make the biggest difference.

  13. I'm working on my 10k now, but I would love to accomplish a half. Like you I was kind of hoping for a baby, but with the husband leaving soon, it's just not happening this year. So why not run?? :)

  14. Great goals!!!! Definitely keep NYC on your radar. You can do it!!! As for your couponing aspirations, my friend has a great FB page and blog. She's really helped me with saving money. Check her out on FB (Saving Said Simply) and the link to her blog is on there.

Running is one of my goals for 2012. Hope you don't mind me flooding your inbox for support!!!

  15. I love New Year's blog posts. So much ambition and excitement in them. Great goals!

  16. The CIM takes place right here in Sac in early December, just saying :) Apparently a lot of people use it as a Boston qualifier due to the flat/fast course. I'm still new to this whole running thing but volunteered for it this year and was definitely inspired to do more!

  17. I'm SO bad. I haven't created any "real" resolutions but I do want to take up baking so thanks for reminding me :)

    Happy 2012!

  18. Great list! I'm still working on mine.

  19. Good goals. I'm so excited about registering for NYC. If I don't get it I'm going to think about Chicago but will probably look for one in November/December. It'll be hard to train in this horrid head for Chicago.

I tried couponing and did pretty well until I got obsessed and would leave the house to run to CVS to pick up something someone blog posted about being a deal. If I could do anything in moderation I would be so much more successful. I love Kortney Kardashian. She would inspire me to do stuff too.

  20. All of these sound feasible and healthy! I love cooking, but oh how work and everything else gets in the way. It's important to make it happen, though! And while I can't really give myself year-long resolutions (cause, well, I break them), I'm doing monthly goals this time around, and I'm hoping I stick to them! It feels good to have a "clean start," so to speak. Happy New Year!

  21. Your committment to fitness is so inspiring! I am just trying to commit to three gym sessions a week :-p Goodluck with your 2012 goals!

  22. You are my running inspiration!! I'm just trying to get a decent time on a 5K :)...trying to do just a half-marathon terrifies me!

  23. I have alot of the same goals, good luck girl!

  24. great goals. i think blogging at the end of the month is a great way to evaluate your process.

i think we should follow each other on pinterest. i have some yummy meals on mine.

and i love that you said kourtney kardashian inspired you... haha! wasn't that so funny? i coupon myself, nothing crazy- but i save about $30 on a good day between my coupons and sales. i mean thats a dinner out for me and the hubs, so the way i look at it- if I'm going to buy it, i might as well save money if i can.

  25. I am a Twitter addict but have been able to pull myself away from it at least once a week (sometimes twice!)

Glad I'm not the only one who relies on my iPhone. All my pictures are taken on it. I need a better camera!

Oh yes, there is a Netflix app. It's dangerous I tell you!!

    :)

  26. Love these goals! I've started doing yoga for the past three weeks and have been finding that I crave that seventy-five minutes of calm and quiet. Way impressed about possible training for a marathon!

  27. I really like your blog goals and 3 times a week is probably as good as its going to get for me too. Scheduling posts makes things so much easier but I really need to get on some sort of routine and make it a habit.

Pinterest has been so great for giving me new recipes to try. I hope you find some good ones too!

I really need to get better with couponing. I go through phases where I'm super into it and then just stop.

Good luck with all of your goals!

  28. I love the photo you posted that says "If you wait for the perfect condition, you will never get anything done!"
    That's so true.
And totally my worst habit. I don't do things unless they can be done absolutely right and perfect! Therefore, I don't get much done.. HAHA
    I loved reading this!

Also- It is SO HARD to quit the Starbucks! haha

So glad you hopped over to my bloggy so I could find yours!!

    New follower!! :)
