Even Carrie Bradshaw isn't THAT high maintenance.
Seriously, though. Showers are overwhelming in the fact that they just confirm that a.) babies are a TON of work, and b.) I am not sure if I have the time nor the patience at this stage in my life to worry about all of the crap they need on top of trying to be a wonderful mother. So mothers, I have to wonder - how do you do it?!?!
There are definitely some perks to being a baby, though. Like these washcloths.
And this monkey harness so you don't get lost. I think I am going to buy one and make my husband wear it.
Here's one thing I DID learn. Babies smell amazing. And you can totally buy baby lotion and bubble bath even if you don't have a baby so you can smell amazing AND sleep through the night. Which I totally did. Don't judge.
And yes. I slept LIKE A BABY last night with my new Aveeno lotion. My husband kept mentioning that I smelled like a baby. We like to call him Doctor Obvious.
But one downfall of being a baby? You don't get to go out with your friends and see cool chalkboard walls in bathrooms like this.
Or perhaps you do. You just don't remember.

ReplyDeleteI have yet to go to a baby shower and I am actually pretty thankful. I don't even like wedding showers. I didn't even like my own! Oh, well, I like my bridal shower but it was so much attention on me and... I don't know. But the gifts were nice (especially my gorgeous wine glasses and champagne flutes, which I used quite a bit).

ReplyDeleteChildren :) There are so many things that are very useful in the baby years, but the vast majority of them you use for less than one year! Still, they seem so necessary in those 3-6 months! Two things about children--1.Don't have them until you are "ready", because they will change your world in a way that you could never imagine-one has to be ready to completely focus on their needs. 2. Other than Jesus, they are the most indescribable blessing--our little ladies have taught me so much about myself and about loving another human in a selfless way. I have neither laughed nor cried as much as I have in the last 4.5 years with our girls :)

I clearly recall (after all of these years) calling both grandmas from the hospital and announcing "It's a girl...Meghan Marie". Both grandmas cried with joy. I still get a lump in my throat just thinking about it. You were our first and have a special place in our hearts to this very day. Someday you will experience the special love between exists parent and child. It is, as Erin blogs, "indescribable". We love you.

If we all waited until we were financially stable, until our relationships were perfect, until we'd already done all the fun stuff we wanted, the world population would have died out eons ago. Hell, I have an almost-first-grader and I'm still waiting to be "ready."
And yes, I love being a mom. So worth it (most days).
I definately do not judge you for the baby bath and moisturiser that is something that I would definitely do.
ReplyDeleteI went to my first baby shower this year and was overwhelmed with all the "stuff". I am so impressed with mums especially my friends who are "young mums".
Having a baby is definitely not in the picture for me for awhile.

ReplyDeleteB. Don't ever feel pressured into thinking you NEED to have a baby. We're not having a population shortage. And there's tons of fulfilled people who don't have children. Only do it if it's what you really, really want because it's a lifetime commitment.
C. I'm addicted to smelling baby heads. It's like snorting crack to me. Or coke? I don't do drugs so I don't really know the correct simile, but baby head smell is so good I can't get enough. Although I'm not that addicted to have one of my own.
I knew someone who registered for a $300 breast pump and a $120 Eddie Bauer diaper bag. They barely make 45,000 a year and I was just like W.T.F. you guys!!1 Ridiculous. I wish people would just ask for what they need and not extravagant ridiculousness.

And you know those towels that have a monkey or duck or some other creature's head that can be worn like a little hat so you are all warm and dry on your head when you get out of the tub? I think they need to make those for adults also.

I'm not a huge fan of going to baby showers but I do really like to play the games... Especially the ones where you get to name all the songs that have to do with a "baby" related word.. but that's only because I'm really good at them...

i will toot my own horn and say that i am a terrific aunt but my uterus must be a cold hearted thing...

ReplyDeleteMy husband and I have registered at places, for our baby and baby shower in July, and some of the stuff seems so unnecessary! Like, I didn't have these things, and I'm still here.
But, since it's my first kid I honestly don't know what I will or won't need. But I imagine all of it, at some point, will be used. At least once...

I've got a confession: I use Johnsons baby bubble bath in my bath. I've got sensitive skin, and the baby bubble bath is the only thing that doesn't dry out my skin! And it smells pretty amazing too!!

ReplyDeleteI love aveeno so much! It is just wonderful. I think what amuses me most about babies are the parents... I have quiet a few customers at work with babies and all the parents are so different. You get the ones that clearly should not even have considered having a child, the doting mothers and then the ones who use their child as an accessory (however this can be quiet cute when the baby looks like Shiloh jolie-pitt and is wearing sparkly red ballet flats!!) xxx

gotta admit; I'm the opposite! I loooooove babies, and have been babysitting so long that I think I know almost all there is to know about them and all their accoutrements, but baby showers? Not my thing! So cheesy and silly and overly sentimental! Bring on the real party with cocktails and dirty talk! :)
