Unique Weddings.

Those of you who know me well know that I.LOVE.WEDDING.PLANNING. It gives me great joy and comfort in the midst of my chaotic life. I love spending time on The Knot and checking out the plans of brides around the country. It's been difficult to NOT change my plans after I see so many creative and beautiful ideas - and I know that both Mike and my mom are grateful for my resistance. However, as I was perusing The Knot today for my daily dose of color schemes and invitation wording - I came across an interesting thread: "What is geeky or nerdy about your wedding?" I have to admit, after reading some of the responses, I feel slightly boring...

* One bride is hiring friends to dress up as ninjas and enter the church right after the priest asks if anyone objects to the marriage. The ninjas will then apologize for their tardiness.
* One bride is taking her bridal party to see the first showing of the sixth Harry Potter movie, which comes out at midnight the day of her wedding. Along those same lines, one bride is wearing a Harry Potter garter. (Ahem, Jordan...)
* One bride complained that her fiance was wearing Star Wars cuff links.
* One bride is hosting a beer pong tournament at her reception.

I wouldn't necessarily call these ideas "geeky" - but they certainly are unique and creative. I once attended a wedding where the head table was turned into a flippy cup tournament - and I must say, it's one of the best weddings I've ever attended.

Have you seen anything creative and out-of-the-ordinary at weddings you've attended?

  1. My cousin and his new wife used the theme from "Superman" for their recessional. He's a bit of a fan. . .

  2. I'm surprised I didn't get a second "ahem" for the Star Wars cuff-links . But no, there will be no HP garter. Or garter of any kind for that matter. I did contemplate walking down the aisle with my dad to the Imperial March (mostly to horrify my mother) but have another song in mind, just, you know, no wedding to play it at.

  3. Actually, I was going to give you a second shout-out but didn't want to refer to you twice on this list, as I do not think you are geeky at all:) I agree - I hate garters too and am refusing to wear one.
